It’s becoming a career that’s recognized by practically every specialty under the sun, and needed by more and more people who require the guidance, support, and accountability we provide as health coaches.

In today’s news round-up, we’ll be talking about…

Even More Reasons to Be a Health Coach

Chronic illnesses like heart disease, diabetes, and dementia are on the rise, with up to 60% of American adults living with at least one chronic condition. According to this article, it’s costing the US economy trillions (yes, trillions) of dollars with the expectation that this staggering number will double within the next three decades. So, if you’ve been on the fence about enrolling in a health coaching program like the Primal Health Coach Institute, there’s never been a better time than now.

Were You at This Year’s Paleo f(x) Conference?

Every year, holistic health pros come together in Austin, Texas for Paleo f(x), the world’s largest ancestral health gathering. If you were there this year, you got the chance to hear speakers like Mark Sisson, Robb Wolf, Dave Asprey, and Dr. David Perlmutter. Attend workshops that help you explore the mind-body connection and expand your health coaching business. And take your relationships with fellow Primal Health Coaches from the online world to real life.

Missed this year’s conference? Mark your calendar for next year’s event, which will be held April 24-26, 2020.

A New Model for Primary Care

In the past, patients would see their primary care doctor for their symptoms and receive medication to treat them. But thanks to new trends in health coaching, physicians are partnering with health coaches like us to help patients better understand their chronic diseases and actively participate in the care they receive. According to Dr. Thomas Bodenheimer, “Health coaching is finding out what patients are willing and able to do and meeting them halfway.” Instead of just treating symptoms, this article explains how patients are benefiting from goal setting and behavior changes, which, as we all know, can lead to long-term health.

An Expo That Caters Exclusively to Seniors

Health and wellness is an industry that spans generations, and this year’s free 50+ Expo held in Grand Island, Nebraska was proof of that. Sponsored by local companies, the Nebraska Department of Labor, and AARP (the American Association of Retired Persons), the expo featured 40 educational and vendor booths as well as valuable seminars covering healthy eating, employment, health education, and more, all focused on the specific needs of seniors.

Primal Kitchen Makes List of 11 Essential Items

Men’s Health magazine named Primal Kitchen’s Ranch, Greek, and Honey Mustard dressings and vinaigrettes a must-have for paleo eaters. If you’re already a fan, you know PK’s products are made with 100% real ingredients like avocado oil, making clean eating easier and more delicious. Primal Health Coach grads get a discount on all Primal Kitchen products, so be sure to check the Business Resource Center section of the curriculum for more information.

Why Our Ancestors Were So Fit

According to this article (and everything you know as a Primal Health Coach), primal workouts can help you get fitter than ever. It’s all about rediscovering how our bodies are designed to move, and involves things like crawling, rolling, and jumping to improve functional fitness. In fact, Primal Health Coach advisory board member Darryl Edwards just gave a must-see TEDx Talk on the topic and dangers of living a sedentary lifestyle. If you haven’t watched it, you can catch it here.

What You Put in Your Mouth Matters

A recent review of 1,200 Bogalusa Heart Study participants confirms what we we’ve been preaching for years—what you eat on a daily basis affects your health. The study identified some environmental and lifestyle-related variables that impact disease, but found that eating the right foods like chia seeds, avocados, blueberries, and cherries (plus avoiding the wrong ones) can alleviate or reduce symptoms associated with chronic high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

How Healthcare Services Are Being Reinvented

It’s empowering to see some of the more traditional players like CVS and Walgreens, as well as startups like the New York City membership-driven club The Well, and Heal, an Uber-like service for health, embracing holistic approaches to healthcare. During next month’s Invent Health event being held in Palo Alto, California, speakers will come together to talk about what’s next for healthcare, showcasing companies that are moving the needle on the future of health and well-being services.
