Overcoming a Life-Threatening Eating Disorder
Lexi’s health journey hasn’t always been a smooth ride. When Lexi was 13 years old, she was diagnosed with anorexia. At the time, Lexi rejected the conventional advice she received upon her diagnosis, which was to “eat ultra-processed junk food to heal.”
Eager to take control of her health and well-being Lexi began her own research and discovered the interconnection between gut health, mental health, and eating disorders, as she explains:
- “Eating disorders are a mental disorder, and seventy percent of serotonin (your feel good hormone) is made in your gut.”
When Lexi realized that eating bad food was making her feel bad mentally and physically, this was a real game changer for her, as she shares:
- “I started researching ingredients and healed my body with real food that God created and designed us to eat.”
As Lexi’s physical and mental health improved she realized how important gut health was to the health of the rest of her body and her mind.
Lexi’s Favorite Foods
Lexi loves mealtime and she sticks to a diet of real, unprocessed foods. Her go-to foods that she adores are:
- Raw milk: Lexi says, "It's the most nutrient-dense option out there. People shouldn’t fear it. Before pasteurization, there was just milk—raw milk was the only kind.”
- Eggs: Lexi eats between six to ten eggs a day!
- Meat products: Bone marrow, steak and lamb
Lexi’s No-Go Food List
Lexi has no time for fake, processed foods. At the top of her no-go food list are:
- Fast foods: If she’s eating out, you’ll find Lexi having a nice sit-down meal.
- Packaged, shelf-stable junk: Lexi avoids ninety percent of what’s in the grocery store.
- Seed oils: These are a big no for Lexi as they’re super high in omega-6s and are extracted using chemicals like hexane.
